So, primers are the first step of makeup right after moisturizing your face. Primer is used underneath eye shadow, foundation, lipstick and mascara. It is used to create a smooth base that helps keep your other products in place all day long. Another reason as to why you should use primer is, it will reduce the amount of makeup you use – making it easier to apply it.

How to use a primer

Are you wondering on how to use a primer? It’s actually very easy. If you have a moisturizer, first moisturize and let it dry. A few minutes later, when it is dry you can now apply the primer. Start at the centre of your face and apply little bit. Use your fingers to spread it out and apply all around like you would moisturizer. Allow the primer to dry, then apply foundation.

Most common primer mistakes

Most people make the mistake of applying their makeup right after using the primer. The key is to wait up to a full minute at least or more until it is completely dry then apply foundation or eye shadow. This will help to get rid of patchiness. Another mistake made is using a primer that is completely wrong for your skin type. A lot don’t realize that certain primers do specific things. You should find a primer that is most suitable for your skin type eg. Dry/oily skin. It is recommended to use a hydrating primer for dry skin and a mattifying one for oily skin.

There are different types of primers including;

Mattifying face primer

If your skin is oily, the best primer you can go for is a mattifying face primer. Most importantly a silicone based one because it creates a barrier between the skin and makeup while also soothing pores.

Hydrating face primer

A hydrating primer is the best to use for dry skin. Most especially if they have ingredients like hyaluronic acid or antioxidants.

Color correcting primer

The color of these primers is made to neutralize fundamental skin tones.

Blurring primer

Blurring primers do not mattify the skin but smoothen it which is best for mature skin types to cover fine lines and wrinkles.
